For the fourth year in a row, the South Shore Locavores will be making apple pies — a whole lot of them! The pies will be donated, frozen and unbaked, to families served by the Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse, complete with baking instructions and nutritional labels. In 2016 the group made and donated 91 pies! The group is hoping to exceed that goal for 2017.
On Thursday November 9th from 7 to 9 pm, Kathleen Wall, Colonial Foodways Culinarian at Plimoth Plantation, and other expert pie-makers will be on hand to organize the effort and provide guidance. Walk-ins are welcome, but to make this the best event it can be, participants are encouraged to fill out this preregistration survey so we can make the best use of everybody’s time and skills. Wear your favorite apron and bring rolling pins, peelers, paring knives, cookie cutters with fall shapes – be sure to label them with your name so they go back home with you! Bring the young bakers in your family, for ages 10 and up — it’s great experience.
