The Fishing Rocks on the Rocky Nook shore was originally called "Mr. Howland's Fishing Rocks", for John Howland of the Mayflower, whose home was near and on whose property the rocks stand. The old Kingston channel ran close to the Fishing Rocks, and in earlier days one could stand on the Fishing Rocks and catch mackerel. SOme time ago a new channel cut itself through towards the Cripple's Rocks, the old channel filled up and became simply a "low ground" leading to the Rocky Nook Wharf and Plymouth shore.
