Frederic C. Adams Public Library 100th Anniversary cup plates – $10Cup plates were widely used in the 18th and 19th centuries, when hot tea was served in handless cups and poured into saucers to cool. Tea was drunk from the saucer while the cup was placed on a cup plate to protect the table. The molds for these commemorative cup plates were engraved in the traditional method: free-hand directly in steel, with hammer and chisel. Each cup plate is hand pressed in 34% lead crystal. |
